The latest Beats On Film exclusive is RUSHMORE, remixed/sampled by @JonathanToth. Toth - “This beat was inspired from the third time I watched the movie “Rushmore” by Wes Anderson. I’ve always loved good harpsichord, and during the interlude where Max is falling in love with his teacher, the musical breakdown was so precious, I had to play with it. At the time, I was experimenting with Jay Dee drums that I grabbed from various albums, so I applied percussion from “Raise it Up” (by Slum Village) to the keys and fell in love. As opposed to doing lots of chopping (to hide the sample, which I enjoy doing as well) I felt this was better to let play out as it was originally recorded (although I did slow it down). The sound byte at the beginning is another piece from the movie, because likewise, the harpsichord was too beautiful to pass up…plus I enjoy giving people hints as to where I find my samples. It makes me happy every time I hear it.” |

1st Beats On Film remix of 2012! St. Louis’ Ben Bounce (@benjaminbounce). “Caddyshack” (Ode to Lacey Underalls). I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to conquer what I had been thinking about for the last 10 years plus. I tried to keep the chops simple. The last thing I wanted was to abandon the essence of what I really loved about that opening. I chopped a little from the movie, and from the love scene off the soundtrack and sprinkled in some of my favorite lines. it still needed a theme though, so I dedicated it to Lacey Underalls, who is of course, the smokin blonde that everyone is trying to hook up with. Since the love interest was involved, I really pushed the “Heartbeat” theme. Loggins uses it in the parts I chopped, and a 1981 track by Taana Gardner gave me a little pop edge that everyone knew to tie it together. Throw in an actual heartbeat, and Rodney Dangerfield bringing in the song, and there it is. My homage to, in my opinion, the greatest comedy ever made.” -Ben Bounce |
